How Phil & Bill's ice cream helped bring world peace.
Hi i’m Phil...many years ago when Bill's grandfather and my grandfather where hiking overseas, all they took with them was their ice cream machinery. It was a different time and that is what was done. While they were hiking, a freak storm hit their area, so they looked for shelter from the storm. Bill’s grandfather spotted a house in the distance. They made their way to it, found it unoccupied and began to unpack the ice cream supplies. Eventually, other hikers came through the door and after an hour or two there were about 100 of them packed together in this small place. Arguments began from the diverse group of hikers. So our grandparents took out their ice cream machinery and made everyone their favorite flavors of ice cream. And do you know what happened next? Instead of arguing, they decided to find common ground while eating ice cream. After the storm passed everyone went on their separate ways. A few days later, Bills grandfather was reading the paper and the headlines were about this new intergovernmental organization calling itself the United Nations (UN). The article said that the this new intergovernmental organization was started because of some rain and ice cream. Because, let’s face it, nothing brings people closer together like good fresh ice cream.
and that more or less is the truth (more less than more more).
...So maybe there are a few details that Phil exaggerated about... Hi I’m Bill. Let’s face it, Phil’s story is a lot more interesting than two guys who get to talking about ice cream and find that they are both passionate about it. So let me tell you the the true story about Phil and Bill’s Ice Cream. I grew up in the far flung suburbs of Boston, Massachusetts, where town hall looks like a postcard, and apple orchards are common. Every small town had at least one dairy farm and many of those had an ice cream stand where you could get large cones with ice cream stacked up as high as you could handle...and I could handle a lot of ice cream. As a teenager I worked in some of those ice cream places; where I learned the basics of making quality ice cream and I loved it. After 20 something years of working in an office, I sat with a consultant who told me that I probably would be happier doing something I love. It’s pretty simple from there really...Phil also wasn’t really keen on working in an office and we saw a need for a premium kosher ice cream right at home in Greenfield (a village here in Pittsburgh, PA), so we started Phil and Bill’s Ice Cream. We have started to build our ice cream business and are dedicated to making the best ice cream in the world, one scoop at a time.
And that is the truth.
Phil & Bill
The truth is that ice cream is one of the most diverse comfort foods we have. We eat when we are sad, we eat it when we are lonely, we eat it when we are happy, when we are celebrating and when we just want a snack. Throughout all our experiences we eat ice cream. We love the idea of being a part of people's lives. We make ice cream by hand. We put the ice cream in the dasher (ice cream machine) and we scoop it out and hand pack it. We bring the best ingredients to the table. One of the things Bill and I are always bringing up, is how can we make that flavor better? How can we make the flavor kick our customers in the mouth? Why do we make Phil and Bill's Ice Cream? Because we love to perfect our flavors and hear you, our customers, say "That is the best ice cream I ever had, and I can't wait to try another one".
